Ysgellog Wind Farm continues to support community projects

The Ysgellog Wind Farm has a dedicated Community Benefit Fund which launched in 2013 and has since awarded over £128,000 to deserving local community projects. And the story doesn’t end there as once again the Fund is set to award funds later this year.

Local groups who need a cash injection still have time to apply and be in with a chance of joining the growing list of 77 projects already supported through the Fund. The 2022 application deadline is 3 August and there will be an available budget of £20,000 to award.

One local group who has recently been able to deliver their project thanks to a grant previously awarded from the Fund is Amlwch Snooker Club. A grant of £2,130 was secured last year to enable the Club to recover their championship size snooker tables. Geoffrey Price, Vice Chairman of the Club said: “We have managed to recover our six snooker tables with the same quality cloth so all tables are consistent. Having improved facilities helps to attract new members. Recently one of our members has qualified as a welsh snooker level 1 coach and on Friday 11 June 2022 we started junior coaching sessions for small groups of youngsters. The sessions will be free to the juniors and we hope they will eventually become members.”

Another group who has benefited by receiving a grant of £1,300 from the Ysgellog Community Fund is Cylch Meithrin Amlwch. Rachel Jones from the group said: “Thanks to the grant from Ysgellog Wind Farm we have been able to purchase a new purpose built art storage cupboard, fill it with new craft items for the children and purchase some new Welsh language books to enjoy at story time. We are thankful that we have been able to reopen the Cylch after the most recent lockdown and glad that all the children can enjoy the new equipment.”

Groups located within a 4km radius of the Ysgellog Wind Farm turbines can apply for grants between £500 and £2,000.
