Whispering Winds Memory Garden Blossoms Thanks to Crook Hill Community Benefit Fund

A once-unused outdoor space in Whitworth has been transformed into a safe, accessible sanctuary for carers and the wider community, thanks to a grant of £5,010 from the Crook Hill Community Benefit Fund.

The new Whispering Winds Memory Garden, created by the Stronger Together Carers Group, now provides a calm and welcoming space where people can reflect, connect, and take part in wellbeing activities.

The garden, developed at The Ashcroft community building, features raised planters, sensory planting, benches, and accessible pathways, making it a valuable space for people of all ages and abilities. Volunteers and community members played a vital role in bringing the garden to life, with over 200 individuals expected to benefit from the project each year.

This beautiful and accessible space is already making a real difference, giving carers, families, and community members a peaceful place for reflection, connection, and wellbeing. It has brought people together, lifted spirits, and will continue to benefit our community for years to come.”

The opening of the Memory Garden was celebrated with an event attended by members, volunteers, and local supporters, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the group. The garden is already being used during weekly carers’ sessions and community gatherings, helping reduce isolation and promote positive mental health.

The Crook Hill Community Benefit Fund is provided by Crook Hill Wind Farm, which is managed by Equitix Ltd (www.equitix.com), with support of Partnerships for Renewables (www.pfr.co.uk). The Fund, administered by GrantScape, supports projects that deliver long-lasting benefits to local communities. Since its launch, the Fund has donated over £410,000 to 135 local projects, strengthening facilities, supporting wellbeing initiatives, and improving the environment across the area.
