Reaps Moss Community Benefit Fund helps Todmorden in Bloom “Paint the Town Pink”

Todmorden has been awash with colour this summer thanks to a grant of £1,882 from the Reaps Moss Community Benefit Fund, which enabled Todmorden in Bloom to extend and refresh its floral displays across the town. A total of 109 hanging baskets, 55 barrier baskets and 40 containers were planted in vibrant shades of pink as part of the local “Paint the Town Pink” campaign, run in partnership with Cancer Research to celebrate milestones in cancer research and raise awareness.

The displays brightened streets, shopfronts and public spaces and quickly became a talking point on social media. Local businesses, volunteers and residents joined forces to plant and maintain them, with many reporting an uplift in footfall and a renewed sense of community pride. The initiative also helped Todmorden secure entry to the Yorkshire in Bloom competition this year. Their efforts were richly rewarded, with Todmorden in Bloom achieving a Gold award, being named category winner, and also receiving the title of Best Community Group in this year’s competition.

The Reaps Moss Community Benefit Fund is provided by Reaps Moss Wind Farm, which is managed by Equitix Ltd (www.equitix.com), with support of Partnerships for Renewables (www.pfr.co.uk). The Fund is administered by independent grant-making charity GrantScape, ensuring that projects funded reflect the priorities and aspirations of the local community. Since its launch, the Fund has already awarded over £116,000 across 65 projects, helping to deliver long-term improvements for people living in and around Todmorden and Bacup.

This latest award is a clear example of how modest funding can make a visible, lasting difference. Todmorden in Bloom used the grant to purchase plants, materials and cover watering and maintenance costs. The result is a seasonal transformation that has engaged residents of all ages, strengthened volunteer networks and created a joyful, shared experience across the town.
