DONG Energy announces grants for community projects in Wirral

logoLocal organisations around Liverpool Bay have been awarded grants as part of DONG Energy’s community benefit fund (CBF), while work continues on the company’s latest offshore wind farm.

Fourteen groups, including Music in Hospitals and Lancashire Wildlife Trust will receive donations of up to £20,000 under round one of this year’s CBF. The grants form part of the community support associated with DONG Energy’s Burbo Bank Extension project, located off the coast of Wirral.

Each year, approximately £225,000 will be made available for community projects for the expected 25 year lifetime of the wind farm, which will benefit the local area. The Fund launched in 2015 to all community organisations located coastally in Denbighshire, Flintshire, the Wirral and Sefton, to apply for grants for eligible projects.

The full list of organisations awarded grants under this round of the Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund and who received a share of the £112,500 pot are as follows:

  • The Aspiration Trust – £15,605
  • Prestatyn Men’s Shed – £4,000
  • Emmaus Merseyside – £12,000
  • Park Roots Community Interest Company – £8,607
  • Acronova Gymnastic Club – £6,000
  • Rice Lane Community Association – £10,000
  • SAFE Regeneration Ltd (previously Safe Productions Ltd) – £15,000
  • Sefton Talking Newspapers – £1,000
  • Hoylake Parade Community Centre – £5,000
  • Melrose Club (previously Melrose Welfare Centre) – £5,200
  • Lancashire Wildlife Trust – £20,000
  • Home-Start Wirral – £4,838
  • Music in Hospitals – £4,350
  • 12th Crosby (St. Luke’s) Scout Group – £900
